ADVOCACY

With author Kelley Coleman at CareFest NYC 2025

Why she’s in it.

In her early thirties, Jennifer's father was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Aware of the alarming rate of Millennials who are family caregivers (over 10 million) and intimately familiar with the role, Jennifer works to build awareness for young(-ish) adult caregivers and shed light on the unique challenges they face as well as the generational impact of family care in a nation without a formal care infrastructure.

Creating community.

Jennifer created and moderates Caregiver Collective (2k+ members) to support and connect Millennial caregivers -- Gens X and Z also welcome. The group has attracted members from all over the world. PBS NewsHour cited Caregiver Collective as a mental health 'solution' for Millennials in the caregiver role.

Building awareness. Fighting for change.

Jennifer also works alongside caregiving organizations to raise awareness for the current face of caregiving and to advocate for the policies and protections family caregivers need. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she served on a Steering Committee of the National Alliance for Caregiving to create the Take Care community platform. She has also worked with national organization Caring Across Generations to film videos sounding the alarm on how cuts to Medicaid impact caregivers and their families. She is a member of CareForce, a cross-sector collaborative network of the Fair Play Policy Institute.

Local & global engagement.

Jennifer is actively involved in organizations focused on local and global advocacy and engagement. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, she has spearheaded 'friends & family' fundraising and donation events to aid people in Ukraine (including the purchase of power generators, military clothing & supplies, and holiday parties for children) delivered with the partnership of Ukraine-Hilfe Berlin. In Los Angeles she served on the Young Professionals board (founding member) of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, and was a two-time elected board member to the Mid City West Neighborhood Council (an advisory board to Los Angeles City Council).

Caregiver Collective

Where young-ish family caregivers connect, find support, and share resources.

An online peer support group, available 24/7.

Created in 2017 to fill the void of support and resources for Millennials who’ve taken on family care, Caregiver Collective has since expanded to include caregivers in Gens X & Z — also ‘sandwiched’ or thinking “I’m too young for this”.

Caregiver Collective has hosted monthly Zoom support chats and free expert-led webinars for members on topics tailored to our generation of caregivers, ranging from how to manage romantic relationships while caregiving to an elderlaw bootcamp.

In 2019, Caregiver Collective was the proud recipient of an Awesome Without Borders grant from the Harnisch Foundation.
